History of Biryani

Biryani is Mughal cuisine. If we have to describe this cuisine in a single sentence, we can say that Biryani is rice cooked with meat and spices. However, this is not it. Biryani cannot be described in a single sentence. This has been a royal cuisine and has a great and interesting history. There is something really special with this cuisine that it is so famous in India and some other parts of the world.
It started in early 15th century, when Mughals came to India and ruled this country till 19th century. They came from Persia and were from the culture of Turks, Arabs and Afghans. Mughal actually started trend of feasts in India. Meat used to be the main ingridients of there dishes.
There were various Indian rice dishes prevalent those days. But Biryani had its own taste. The name of the cuisine ”Biryani” is derived from the Persian word “Briyan”. “Briyan” means “fried before cooking”. So it is very clear that this cuisine was initially practiced and cooked in Iran (now known as Persia). Another interesting story behind origin of this cuisine is related to Mumtaz Mahal, the queen of Mughal king Shah Jahan. It is said that Mumtaz Mahal once took a look at the situation and health condition of army personnels. She found them really weak and under-nourished. Therefore, she order her chef to prepare a dish which can provide the balanced nutrition to the soldiers and hence, the Biryani came into existence.
The cuisine soon became popular royal cuisines. It was the first choice of Mughals, Nizams of Hyderabad, Nawabs of Lucknow and various other royal communities, across the India. The method of preparation used to differ slightly from place to place, but the concept remained the same.
Once a royal dish is now enjoyed in each and every corner of this country. People have really liked it since centuries. We must say there is something really special about this royal cuisine.

Health tips

A healthy lifestyle is important to keep the body fit and healthy. It will keep the diseases at bay and improve the quality of life. Having good food (breakfast, lunch or dinner) with essential nutrients is the key to maintain the functions of the body. But, as important as the food, there are certain tips that people need to follow before and after having food for easy digestion and improved metabolism of the body.

Before Having Food

  • Before having the breakfast, getting exercise will improve the mood and enhance the burning of calories consumed during breakfast efficiently. Exercise will speed the metabolism by setting the body to burn more calories naturally throughout the day. It will improve the energy levels making people stay active.

  • Drinking water before having a meal will provide enough hydration to the body and avoid overeating. It can wake the system, which will reduce the food consumption. Having water before eating the food will boost the workings of the digestive enzymes that will help in effective absorption of nutrients from the food.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol before having the food as it can slow the metabolism down. It is widely accepted that having wine is good for the heart, but having it before the meal is not good for the body. It lowers the body’s potential to burn the calories effectively.

  • Having caffeine before eating food can improve the metabolism. If caffeine causes issues in the body, then taking green tea is a safe alternative. The antioxidants in the green tea can improve the metabolism and reduce the inflammation.

After Having Food

  • Do not go to sleep immediately after having food as it can slow down the digestion process. It increases the chances of having heartburn and bloating. So, it is better to wait for some time (at least 2 hours) to go to sleep.

  • It is not good to eat fruits immediately after having food as different types of fruits take a different amount of time to digest. The fruits may not get digested properly, which will rob the body of the nutrients.

  • Taking a short walk (without much intensity) after a meal can improve the metabolism and digestion. It will eliminate the bloating and ensure absorption of nutrients from the meal.

  • Many people take a bath immediately after having food, but it is not good for the body. The blood flows to different parts of the body during showering instead of the stomach. So, it delays the digestion.

The simple tips can maximize the metabolism in the body that will provide energy throughout the day. The small changes can improve the people’s productivity in their daily activities without any hassles.
